"Come up top bridge". I complied and he ordered me to steer a course for Breaker Point and to keep the ship 80 miles outside

Hongkong. At the first signs of the attack I heard a fusilade of shots a little later things seemed to have quietened down but

I cannot say what was going on at the other part of the ship. A

quartermaster steered the ship and things became more or less

normal and I was allowed to go to my room and eat and sleep when

desired, but 2 pirates kept up patrol round my room while the 2

others kept watch at the bridge. The other officers were

released and we were allowed to remain on our part of the deck.

Things went on like this until noon of the 15th when the pirate

leader ordered me to change course and steer for Chilang Point

Light and instructed me to inform him when it was sighted. It

was sighted at 23.45 hours when about & armed pirates rushed up

to the bridge and appeared to be very excited. The ship was

then darkened and I was ordered to steer to Ping Hoi. I steered

for Mendoza Island, which place was reached at 04.00 hours on the 16th inst. At this stage a man who appeared to be acting as pilot for the pirates took charge but I was still forced to

remain on the bridge. He steered for outside Single Island

apparently in error thinking it was Bate Island which is at the

entrance to Bias Bay. We reached there at 05.00 hours and the

ship was headed for Hirs Bay. Dawn was now breaking and the

pilot appeared to realise that he had made a mistake and ran

down from the bridge and returned with about 20 piretes who

seemed to be in a great panic. We were now abreast of Sha Mun being about a mile off. The quartermaster at the wheel told the pirates that I knew how to get the ship clear and I was ordered

to take charge. The pirates then went below, except one who remained at my side. He said "Suppose you not take ship through I kill you and I kill myself". We were now clear of Sha Hun

and were headed into Mirs Bay when I saw a small launch steaming from Sha Mum towards us. By this time the pirates were in a terrible state of panic and 7 or 8 of them rushed back to the

bridge
