The salary of the post would be the same
as that of the other two Assistants, namely £1050 rising to £1200 by annual increments of £30, and if you approve
of the proposal I recommend that Mr. E. W. Carpenter should be appointed to it. The excellent work done by this officer has been more than once referred to in despatches, and I am confident that his appointment will tend to relieve the Director of much work for which he has not really time. Mr. Carpenter at present draws salary rising to £1000 a year in 1926 and a non-pensionable allowance of $2400 a year and I propose that as Assistant Director of Public Works he should draw the first increment from the 1st January last, that is £1080. This salary is less than he is receiving at present, but the whole salary being pensionable will more than compensate for the temporary loss of pay.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient humble servant,
7. E. Stutts
Governor, &c.
