My dear Fletcher,
E. 8. Kadoorie has just called to see me with
regard to his naturalization papers. Apparently there is
some hitch owing to his having been too long away from Hongong. I can vouch for his prolonged absence from the
Colony at that time being due to the work he was doing in
Shanghai in connection with the reconstructions of various
British Rubber Companies which had got into low water, and
I think the late A. G. Stephen, who was Manager of our
Shanghai Branch in those days, persuaded Kadoorie to remain in Shanghai and undertake that reconstruction work which
was really in British interests. Under the circumstances. it would seem a little hard on Kadoorie if the time he spent in Shanghai handicaps him in obtaining his naturalisation. Perhaps with the foregoing information you may be able to assist him in obtaining his desire.
