I am uirected by Mr. secretary amery to acknowlouge
the receipt of your letter of the Ruta December, 1924, regaru:
:ing the pension payable to Mr. R. v. Mezwan from Hong kong
f'unas.

2. In reply, I am to polat out tuat in the Last sentence of
the despatch from the orricer Administering the Government of
Hong Kong, to which the uespalon referred to in your letter
forms a reply, it is stated tust so far as the colonial Govern;
ment is concerned Mr. McEwan's service is continuous, anu buat
as he can outain no pension from the Imperial Government in
respect of his service at the Naval Yura, taat period must be
regarded as leave without salary. Leave without salary is not
counted as service for the purposes of pension, and it will be
seen that the decision taken in lyle nas not been alterea.

The Hong Kong pension laws may be consulted in the Library
of the Colonisi Office by any representative whom you may appoint
between the hours of 10 a.m.
except saturday when
the hours are 10 a.. to 1 p.m.
