(3) The Rhenish Mission desire to send to Hongkong one of their missionaries, Mr Genahr, who is a British subject, and to recover the use of part of their property (i.e. Nos. 12 and 14 St Stephen's Lane) in order to use it as a business centre for their missions on the mainland and a rest-house for missionaries. If for any reason the return of Mr Genahr is unacceptable to the Hongkong Government, the Society would be prepared to substitute another of their missionaries. They desire that the large house in Bonham Road should be sold and the proceeds made available for the support of their work in the Kwangtung Province, which is in serious financial straits.
(4) Certain monies are at present in the hands of the Trustees derived from the rent of the property of the Rhenish Mission. We understand it is the desire of the Trustees to hand over these monies to the Rhenish Mission to assist in their work in the Kwangtung Province, and that the Secretary of State was recently consulted by the Hongkong Government in regard to this proposal. This matter, we are informed, is one of exceptional urgency since the missionaries in China are stated to be suffering very great privations.
(5) In regard to the Basel Mission, permission has already been granted for the return of Mr Jucker. The Mission has been awaiting the decision of the Board of Trustees regarding the property which is needed for residence and office.
The Basel Mission now desire to send in addition another missionary to help the Takka congregation. The man...
