the General Orders issued from time to time in the
Colony and to the Colonial Regulations in force for
the time being. A copy of the latest edition of the Col.Regulatio
Regulations is enclosed, together with a print con-
taining information as to the rules with regard to
leave and pension and as to the mode of payment of
salaries in Hong Kong.

3. Regulations Nos. 49 and 73 specify the pro-
ceedings which are taken in a Colony when it is deemed necessary to suspend an officer with a view to his
removal from the service; but you must also understand
that you will hold the appointment subject to the
pleasure of the Crown, and that the pleasure of the
Crown that you should no longer hold it may be signi-
fied through the Secretary of State, in which case no
special formalities are required.
4. If you are prepared to accept the appointment.
you should present yourself to one of the medical advisers of this Department, whose names are given on the enclosed letter, for the purpose of being medically
examined. The letter is to be left with him; and he
will send his report direct to this Department. A

medical history sheet is also enclosed, which should
be filled up and handed to the Medical Adviser at the
time of the examination. The fee for the examination
will be paid by the Government and any necessary travelling expenses (3rd class return) will be refunded on your informing this Department of the amount.
5. If finally selected for appointment you will be provided with free passages to the Colony for your- self and your family, on your signing the usual agree- ment with the Crown Agents for the Colonies,
4, Millbank, London, S.W.1., by which you will be bound to repay to the Colonial Government the cost of the passages in the event of your leaving the service within three years of the date of your arrival in the Colony for any other reason than mental or physical
infirmity.
6. You will be entitled to half salary from the date of your embarkation from this country, and to full salary from the date of your arrival in the
Colony.
