be the Straits Times hed misrepresented me. The second la on the general subject, which you probably know perfectly

and the third part is with regard to the application to pore. The claim is always made by those who want to have J.D.0. here again, that Singapore is different from any ? part of the world. There is no doubt that there are icular difficulties here as I have indicated in my lecture.

The Straits Ti es in an article printed last night brings out

It is certain points and I am forwarding a copy of that. opposed to our side and it would not be fair not to let you see it. I think that the writer takes altogether too low & view of the Chinese. After my lecture a non-Christian Chinese man

"The Bishop is right; ộ said to a Chinese friend of mine

More than are not beasta and we ought not to have Regulation." one Indian has deplored the flagrant nature of vice in this

and I can say the same as regards my country compared to India, friends who are either Chinese or who have lived in China.

What I cannot make out is why there should not be a definite attempt to bring home to the conscience of the Chinese what their own religious teachers told them, for their own great writers speak quite definitely about this sin as being an evil which should be avoided.

I must not take up your time more and my time is somewhat limited, and I have already given more of it thatn I should wish to this subject.

I am sending a copy of this to the Association for Lotal

Social Hygiene, and also to Lady Astor, asking them to take uh steps as they can in the matter.

With many thanks to you for the information which you have in your difficult work. given me, and wishing you all succes

Believe me,

(Copied P.W.}

Yours sincerely,

(signed)

Bishop of Singapore.
