1. The Merchant Shipping Ordinance, 1899.

1. In this Ordinance :

Short title.

Interpretation of terms.

• "Stipendiary Magistrate" means and includes any Magistrate and the Marine Magistrate:
• "Master" includes every person (except a pilot) having command or charge of any ship;
• "Seaman" includes every person (except masters, pilots, and apprentices duly indentured and registered) employed or engaged in any capacity on board any ship :
• "Vessel" includes any ship or boat or any other description of vessel used in navigation:
• "Ship" includes any description of vessel used in navigation not propelled by oars, except junks or lorchas not propelled by steam :
• "Junk" includes "Lorcha" and any sea-going sailing vessel of Chinese or other Asiatic build, construction, and rig:
• "Lorcha" includes any sea-going sailing vessel of European build and construction, but of Chinese or other Asiatic rig, or of Chinese or other Asiatic build and construction, but of European rig:
• "Steamship" means any vessel propelled by steam:
• "Motor Boat" means any vessel not exceeding 60 tons propelled by any mechanical power applied, except steam, oars, or sails :
