The question of a Station at Hong Long was dependent on the
Action to be taken on Recommendation 10 of the Report of
the Imperial Fireiers Committee under which the Expert
Wireless Commission should enquire into a wireless system
for the Colonies.
CAPTAIN FITZMAURICE stated that from a naval point of
view a high power W/T Station at Hong Kong was not essential,
provided that a high power W/T Station is built at Singapore,
vide minutes of 27th 1.0.0. Eeeting. his station at Singapore
is vital to strategic requirements irrespective as to whether
or no the dock at Singapore is built or not.
MR. SIMPSON enquired with what Station it was proposed
that the wireless station at Hong Kong should communicate.
He pointed out that under the conditions issued by the Indian
Government as regards the working of the Indian Station, it was
prohibited for the Indian Station to be diverted without
authority from its direct service.
THE CHAIRLAN agreed that it must be remembered that
the Indian Station was affected, but he considered that
this difficulty would be met by the Export Commission consulting
with the India Office. Je suggested that, without prejudice
to what might be recommended by the Expert Commission,
the Secretary of state for the Colonies should be requested
to ask for more particulars fror. the Forconi Commeny as regards
their proposals for a station at llong bong.
CONCLUSION,
The Committee agreed :-
To request the Secretary of State for the Colonies to obtain further perticulars from the Lercent Company as regards their proposals for a High-power Wireless Station at Hong Kong, this request to be without prejudice to any recommendations that might be put forward by the Expert
ireless Commission under Recommendation 10 of the Report of the Imperial Wireless Telegraphy Committee, 1984.
