most gratefully accept the offer which
you with the approval of unofficial
members of both councils have made to
contribute the sum of £250,000 repre
Senting profits of shipping control
during the war to the expenses of
Singapore base.
This very generous
contribution will be of material
assistance to an important work of
Imperial defence.

immediate reply to your telegram but
consideration of certain details
connected with the offer has involved
delay which I greatly regret.
