PARAPHRASE TELEGRAM from the Governor of Hong Kong

to the Secretary of State for the Colonies. Dated 8th Dec. (Received, Colonial Office,8.50 a.m.8th December, 1924).

Kuo Min Tang I am advised that extremist elements elsewhere would probably be strengthened by suppression of Malayan branches. Moreover the idea that they were all regarded as tarred with the same brush would dishearten respectable members. We would probably have some labour trouble in hong Kong the extent of which cannot be gauged in advance. Ill feeling against Great Britain already exists in Canton and our main trouble would be that it would be much increased. possibility of a boycott cannot be disregarded.

Every opportunity would be taken of giving vent to the feelings around and consequences might be very serious to our trade and British trade in south China generally.
