Dear Grindle,
I am afraid we know nothing of the present activities;
of listor Cassel, about which you enquired in your letter of
November 29th, though no doubt we shall get a ro ort from
the Consul General at Canton,if he is up to anything serious.
I doubt, however, whether he now representa any big financial
group.
Els use of Lord Curzon's name may merely mean that
he has been saying what is quite true, that he had Foreign
Office support for his lust concession in 1920. Although
that concession had some rather queer features about it, it
was considered on investigation to be bona fide, and was
supported like any other British concession. If, however, he goes further than this and says that we are supporting his present activities, that is of course untrue, since, ae I have said, se know nothing of them up to date.
