I have the honour to report that in accordance with your instructions on the 4th instant, I visited the Government Civil Hospital, and interviewed the Principal Civil Medical Officer with reference to certain entries that had been made in the Medical Stock Books, As a result of my interview and verbal report thereon, you directed me and the Senior Clerk, ir. B. E. Maughan, to make a complete stock- taking of the Medical Store, and verify the Stock Book balances with the Stock balances.

I attach herewith a detailed statement showing the Stock Book balances, balances of actual stock and the resultant discrepancies as at 6.10.24.

For your information I would inform you that Dr. C. W. McKenny was appointed Acting Principal Civil Medical Officer (in addition to his other duties) on 5th September, 1923 vice Dr. J. T. C. Johnson, who proceeded on leave, prior to retirement. Mr. R. E. Cable, Apothecary, Government Civil Hospital, proceeded on leave on 19th April, 1924. Mr. Shand was appointed as an Apothecary to the Government Civil Hospital on 16th January, 1924, with a view

to his acting for Mr. Cable whilst the latter Officer was on

leave.

The Principal Civil Medical Officer drew my

attention to various entries which appear on issue notes, made but by Mr. Cable on or between the 17th January and the
