that Stonecutters can take it over at an early date, which should not be later than January 1st, 1925. It is thought
desirable to explain that such traffic has so far been chiefly due to the establishment of communications with Canton and Swatow. These two stations-the one managed by Dr. Sun's Administration and the other by a clique of his political opponenta - are not registered at Beme under the Wireless Telegraph Convention or recognised by the Central Government of China. Hence no reciprocal working agreement could be made with either. At present each station collects ita om charges independently of the others. In the case of Hongkong the charge authorised by Government is 30 cents a word, collected, in the case of a message despatched, from the sender; in the case of message received, from the addresses. Despite this, communication with each place has been effectively carried on. The stations are about 1† K.W. in power and are in the hands of Asiatic operators who do not appear to be highly skilled, the wave lengths vary after any adjustment and the receiving gear appears poor, alow single way working being all that is possible. It may be, under these circumstances that this class of traffic is not that
anticipated when Diplex Duplex working is proposed, and that such traffic would be a hindrance to the arrangement of a
satisfactory programme of communications. If so, this
Government should be informed at the earliest possible moment
so that arrangements can be made for it to be dealt with, as
although the traffic itself is small and irregular, it is the only rapid means which comercial firms have of communic- ating with Swatow and also on many occasions with Canton.
