I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letters No.813/23 of the 21st February, 18th March, and 26th April, 1924, on the subject of the pension of Mr. E. A. Irving, Director of Education, Hongkong, in which you inquire what total salary was dram by Mr. Irving during his service in the Federated Malay States, and the rate of conversion for pension purposes.

I regret to say that the records regarding the service, in the Federated Malay States, of this officer are somewhat defective. The attached statement is believed

to be correct.

For pension purposes Kr. Irving's salary should be commuted at the rate of 38.8d. to the Dollar.

I regret the delay in answering your letters;
