I have the honour to transmit to you a copy
of a minute by the District Officer in charge of the New Territories covering a translation of a petition from the elders of the township of Kam Tin in which they ask for the return of certain iron gates which were removed at the time. of the disturbances which took place when the New Territories were transferred to the administration of Great Britain,
I enclose also a copy of a minute by Mr. Gerrard, Acting Assistant Superintendent of Police, from which it appears that these gates were removed from the Colony by the late Sir Henry Blake and are now at Myrtle Grove, Youghal. No record can be found here of the circumstances in which the gates were taken away by Sir Henry Blake but possibly Sir J. H. §. Lockhart would be able, if asked, to throw some light on the matter.

There appears to be no doubt as to the identity of the gates, and indeed I have a vague recollection of Sir Henry's telling me many years ago that they were in his possession and that he intended to erect them at Myrtle Grove. It is obvious that he had no right to remove them from the Colony, as, if they had ceased to be the property
