:
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your
letter dated 15th February on the 18th a.m. when we were
on passage to Wuchow, and as we shall not arrive back before the 22nd I shall not be able to acknowledge your letter before then; I may state that I left home in April last year and I sent the monthly allowance until "ay; I can't think how Mrs. Edmondson can claim for fifty two weeks maintenance; I may also state that I signed on as 4th Mate without pay on the S.S. "Inglestan" to come out here to get a job; when at Basra, Persian Gulf, I was transferred to another ship named S.S. "Ferrara"; unfortunately when leaving Sabang bound for Macno she took fire md was 8 total loss, every person on the ship losing all their effects and papers and everything the few dollars I had to draw from that ship I bought a few white suits with; on arriving at Hongkong the owner refused to do anything for us, and since I got employment I have used nearly all my money rigging myself out again; enclosed please find
I also gent a copy of the latter I sent "rs. Edmondson; a letter explaining my losses about three months ago but up to now have had no reply; trusting you will excuse me for not replying before,
I remain, &c.,
(Sd.) H. R. Edmondson.
P.8.
Am now waiting a reply to the latter I sent Mrs.
Edmondson before I do anything.
