gir,
With reference to the Duke of Devonshire's Confidential despatch of the 18th July, 1923, I have the honour to submit a short report on the steps taken generally to combat the spread of venereal disease in this Colony.
Provision has been made for the free
diagnosis and treatment of venereal disease in the new out-patients' Ward of the Government Civil Hospital and full facilities for personal irrigation have been provided while in all the Government hospitals patients may be received, if necessary without charge, for treatment as
in-patients.
Arrangements are being made for the opening of an ablution centre where prophylactic treatment can be received at Wanchai in the centre of the brothel area but difficulties have arisen in obtaining suitable accommodation. It is hoped shortly to overcome these difficulties.
As regards prostitutes in the Harbour, no special orders have been issued to the Police as it does not appear possible for them to do more than they have done in the past. They have always taken action when it has come to the ir notice that parties of prostitutes are sailing round the harbour looking for business from ships. In such cases, deportation from the Colony has been freely
resorted
