My dear Amery,
With reference to your mention of Zimmern as
a candidate for the post of Vice-Chancellor of Hong
Kong University, we have now heard unofficially that
the present Vice-Chancellor does propose to retire
next spring.
We are making a careful note of Zimmern's
name for consideration with others, if, as will most
probably be the case, the Governor commicates with
the Secretary of State with regard to the appointment, which, of course, is not in the Government Service.
But I ought to let you know that, apart from
other candidates who may come forward, there is a
likely candidate whom the Governor and we too regard as having outstanding claims to the post, if he should
wish for it, and be in a position to take it up.
Yours sincerely,
Thury Gove
The Rt. Hon. L.C.M.S. Amery, M.P.
