With reference to your letter of the 9th April last,
and subsequent reminders, on the subject of the Post
Office building at Shanghai, I am directed by the
Postmaster General to inform you that the Office of Works
have proposed that the payment to the Hong Kong
Government shall be based upon the assumption that the
purchase should have been completed in 1911 at the then valuation, with interest to date. These proposals are agreed to by this Department, and have been authorized by the Treasury; and the Office of Works are now negociating with the Hong Kong Government on this basis.
A further communication will be forwarded to you
immediately a settlement has been reached.
