Sir.
With reference to Sir Gilbert Grindle's letter of
June 16th (No. 29355/23), I am to say that one of the candidates for the post of Assistant Mistress in the Hong Kong Education Department is daughter born in England
of an Austrian. I am to enquire whether the fact that this candidate's father is an Austrian should be regarded as a bar to the consideration of her application by the Selection Committee. The number of candidates for these
posta is very limited and the particular candidate in question is amongst those who are best qualified.
Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office,
Downing Street,
S.W.1.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
AR. Anima
