With reference to Conclusion 6 of the Twenty Ninth Meeting of the Standing Defence Sub-Committee, the Committee had again under consideration the question of the extension of the naval dry dock at Hong Kong (C.I.D. Papers Nos.181-C and 185-0).
Lord Salisbury stated that, in view of the opinion expressed by the legal advisers of the Foreign Office that the extension of the naval dock at Hong Kong wee not permissible under the terms of article 19 of the Washington Treaty, this question must now be allowed to drop. He pointed out that commercial dry docke capable of taking light cruisers were available at Hong Kong.
Conclusion.
The Comittee agreed that, in view of the opinion expressed by the legal advisers of the Foreign Office the extension of the naval dry dock at Hong Kong should not be proceeded with.
