British Officer Leads Chinese Raiding Party.
A British police officer and a party of Chinese detectives have just 'discovered right tons of smuggled opium, valued at £50,000, on a lonely little island near Hong-kong (says & Ceutral News mes- [age),
The police parly concealed themselves in the bottom of a native boat, pulled by two Chinese boatmen. On getting Bear the island they encountered another Da- |tive boat, in charge of an armed guard, who were keeping watch on behalf of the
mugglers.
The guard did not dream that the in- coming boat contained policemen, but they were disillusioned when the men in hiding sprang out, overpowered them, and took them prisoner.
A search of the island was then made, and a cleverly concealed tuna was eventually found which led to a cham- ber whore the opium was discovered in Hour bags.
A Chinese woman in the chamber was "arrested. It is believed that there is a big syndicate concerned with the im- portation of this optum into the colony.
