Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State for
Foreign Affairs to acknowledre receipt of your letter
No. 15195/1923 of the 31st ultimo, relative to the
construction of a loop-line to link up the Canton-
Kowloon and Canton-ñanko railways.
2. The importance of this project is fully
recognised; but I am to invite reference to the
third paragraph of the enclosed telegram from His Majesty's
Minister at Peking from which it would appear that the
prospects of progress in present conditions must be
considered remote.
3. It will be observed that Sir R. Hacleay has
evidently been in direct communication with the Governor
of Hongkong on the matter and is sending a report by
post. On receipt of this report, a further letter will
be addressed to you.
I am,
sir,
