I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Gray to acknow-
ledge the receipt of your despatch Go. 5 of the 20t
October last, requesting permission to register the
birth of Tan Lu Tek, the son of Wra Tap Tuan Neo.
widow of the late British subject, Tan Eng Yong.
In reply I am to state that, in view of the fact
that wrs Yap Tuan Neo has not been registered as a
-ritish subjeît since her husband's death, you should
infe med her that the registration of her son's birth
Can only be authorised on the condition that she now
registers herself and will continue to do 20.
