TWO ENGINEERS required in the Architectural Office of the
Public Works Department in the Colony of Hongkong
with qualifications as under:-
1. Duties of Office,
and qualifications required for their performance.
Architect's duly qualified assistant who should belong to the RIBA. Age 25 - 30. He should be conversant with all the usual routine of an Architectural Office including the preparation of sketch designs and working drawings, specific ations, quantities, measuring, &c., in connec- tion with new buildings, additions and altera- tions: he should have had experience also in the design and execution of steel and reinforced concrete structures. Some experience is desira- ble in the maintenance of buildings. Municipal experience preferred. Ong Engineer to be appointed will be mainly employed on extensions to existing buildings and works of a minor character and this should be made clear at the time of appointment. Should be unmarried and have served in some branch of H.M.Forces during the late war unless satisfactory reasons for not having done so can be produced.
2. Salary of office.
£460 per annum rising by annual increments of £20 to £500 during the third year, and there- after, in the event of the appointment being made permanent, by further annual increments of £20 to a maximum of £950 subject to efficiency bars at £600 and £700. The increases specified are dependent upon the proper performance of his duties in the meantime. Salary payable in dollars in accordance with Government Regulation A deduction of 4% of salary as a contribution to the W. & 0. Fund is required to be made.
3. Allowances, quarters and other circum- stances affecting the value of the office.

As in certain cont ing- encies no rent allowance is provided, the Crown Agents should fully explain the Rent Regulations to candidates before appointment, to prevent misunderstanding and subsequent disappointment, Conveyance Allowance of $240 per annum.
