My Lord Duke,

Referring to my despatch No.262 of the 2nd August,

1923, I have the honour to inform Your Grace that I consider that further increases are necessary to the establishment of the Public Works Department in this Colony.

At the present time it is impossible for the Architectural Office to cope with the immense amount of work throw upon it by the extensive building schemes in progress in this Colony and new buildings urgently required by Government are consequently delayed. I am satisfied that this large increase of work is likely to continue for many years and

I recommend therefore the appointment of two additional assistant engineers and two additional overseers, If the creation of the se posts is approved I should be glad if the Crow Agents could be instructed to obtain the necessary officers and send them out at

the first opportunity.

In consequence of unsuitability, the services of Mr. F. W. Firman have been dispensed with (Crown Agents reference 1/10973 of 1921) and I should be glad therefore if

a third overseer could also be appointed early.

THE RIGHT HONOURABLE

I enclose the usual forms of particulars.

THE DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE, K.G.,

I have the honour to be,

My Lord Duke,

Your Grace's most obedient
