RE. 24 SEF 23
193
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG. 21st August, 1923.
My Lord Duke,
I have the honour to state that with the
general expansion of this Colony the work of the Legal
Departments, and more particularly of the Land Office, has
become too great for the present staff, and I am satisfied
that the early appointment of an additional officer has
become necessary.
2.
3.
It is proposed that the new officer should
be given the title of Second Assistant Crom Solicitor, but
should be available to assist either in the Land Office or
in the Crown Solicitor's Office as occasion demands.
The salary of the post should be £600 per annum rising by anntal increments of £25 to £800, and the
qualifications and conditions generally should be as stated
in my despatch No.151 of the 4th of April, 1922.
4.
I shall be glad to have a telegraphic reply
to this despatch in order that provision may be made in the
Estimates for 1924 if my proposals are approved, in which
case I would request that steps may be taken as soon as
possible to select and send out an officer to fill the post.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord Duke,
Your Grace's most obedient
humble servant,
B.E. Stalks
Governor, &c.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
THE DUKE OF DEVONSHIRE, K.G..
&c,
