I crave leave to refer Your Excellency to
Sir Anton Bertram's letter, a copy of which I attach. It states succinctly the position and demonstrates the unfair-
ness of the Bahamas Law.
0.
presentations have been made I believe to
the Secretary of State in the case of Ceylon and certain other Colonies urging the introduction of an uniform Pensias Ordinance throughout the Colonies, providing that all ser- vices wherever performed should be considered to be continu-
ous and
mulative for pension purposes.
Unless some such proposal is sanctioned by
the amendment of the Pension Minute in fores in Hongkong it seems to be beyond the purview of Your Excellency in Council
to compute for the purposes of pension my service elsewhere
than in the Colony. The power conferred under Clause 17(2)
of the Pension Minute has, I apprehend, no relation to a Judge of the Supreme Court whose pension is assessed under
Clause 2.
6.
I would however request that His Excellency
the High Commissioner of Cyprus may be invited in the exercise of his discretion to add in computing the period of my service as King's Advocate in Cyprus such addition in
respect of my previous service in the Bahamas as may be most
advantageous under Regulation 28 of the second Schedule to
the Pensione Law 1905.
(8d.)
I have, Bo..
W. Rees-Davies, Chief Justice.
