The value of a Colonial appointment depends upon so many direnmstances besities the salary that the Secretary of State often cars 4. judge what would be acceptable to an affect. Applicants for promotion should therefore, in their own interests, state na precisel possible what they desire, either specifying certain appointments, or at least mentioning the Colonies to which they would or would not willing to go, and the amount of salary which they think that they may reasonably expect.

The Acting Principal Civil Medical Officer reports that Mr. Murray has performed his duties in a very capable manner. He is obliging, hardworking and intelligent, and will be a loss to the Medical Depart- ment of this Colony should he leave.
