Public brothels in Hongkong,
1. The proportion of males to females for the whole population of the Colony in 1921 was (the figures being 382,357 to 242,309) 16 meles to 10 females, approximately.
In the Island of Hongkong it is about 18 males to
10 females.
And in Kowloon Peninsula about 15 to 10 (Chinese) 12 to 10 (non Chinese).
In the "ew Territories the figures were 41,599
males to 41,348 females

The total of the known brothels and prostitutes
in the Colony are given in the attached table.
3. As regards the ages of the prostitutes, none is allowed in any brothel under the age of 19. Casas of doubt are as a rule turned down in this office: no doubtful case is passed without invoking the assistance of the Po Leung Kuk Committee in estimating the true age.
Practising prostitutes are given cards, of which
s sample is attached; the translation shews the object. Further a Police Inspector is seconded to this office with the sole duty of seeing that the provisions of the "omen and Girls' Ordinance (No.4 of 1897) are observed; the principal part of this duty is to prevent irregularities in the brothels and to make it easy for prostitutes to register complaints or grievances. Experience shows them to be very ready to take advantage of opportunities afforded. Dr. G. E. Aubrey, who has a very wide experience in the Asistic brothels for Europeans states that he has examined every woman applying for admission to the houses, by whom he is consulted, and no virgin has applied during the last 14 years.
4. Excepting Spring Garden Lane and Swatow Lane, brothels for Chinese and for Europeans are situated in quite separate parts of the Colony. Swatow Lene is a small
