Intended application for Naturalization by Walter Guthrie Erwin,

Before drawing up the necessary papers in support

of an application for "aturalization, we beg to state the following facts relative to the above named applicant with a view to obtaining your opinion as to whether he can establish a case for the granting of a certificate of Naturalization.

Mr. Erwin who is about 34 years of age, was born at Cedar Rapids in the state of Iowa in the United States of America.

He has a house, No.30 Praya East which he has rented since 1916 when he first came to Hongkong. Since that time Mr. Erwin has been continuously employed as a ship's Officer by the firm of "essrs. Douglas Lapraik & Co. and the only periods of absence of any length from Hongkong have been to Vladivostock for one month and Mesopotamis for two months, in the latter case, the ship upon which Mr. Erwin was employed, (the a/s "Haiching"), was engaged in

carrying munitions for the use of the British Araw in

Mesopotamis.

Otherwise, Mr. Erwin has only left the Colony for

periods of 9 to 10 days, and in the intervals between different voyages extending from 3 to 4 days, "r. Erwin has always returned to his home at No.30 Praya East.
