With reference to Your Grace's despatch No.67Ỉ lobgo of the 27th March, 1923, I have the honour to return herewith declarations in support of the application made by Ir. W. G. Erwin for a certificate of naturalization as a British subject. Supplementary declarations have been made by three of the original declarants and the fourth by Mr. G. W. Barton partner of ir. H. W. White who is at present out of the Colony, to the effect that the declarants are not the agents or solicitors of the applicant.

I enclose also a copy of the first letter received from Messrs. Deacon, Looker, Deacon and Harston requesting information as to the possibility of "r. Erwin receiving a certificate of naturalization and a copy of the reply which I caused to be addressed to them.

It will be seen from this letter that Mr. Erwin has continuously rented a house No.30 Praya East and has thus retained a permanent home in Honkong since 1916. His service afloat has been entirely on board British shipe
