Further the Police at Sabang has been reinfor -ced lately in order to better combate the smuggling, so that it is to be expected that soon the discharging and transhipment at labang of opium, destined to East Asia, and not covered by an import certificate, will shortly cease.
From the above it will appear that the opium traffic via Sabang had the necessary attention of the Netherland Indian Officials already. The information asked by you from the Governor of Acheen and Dependencies by your letter addressed to him will undoubtedly be supplied to you soon direct,
In respect of the above meant transhipment and transit at Sabang, it may be stated that the Netherland Consul at Bombay informed the Netherland Indian Government that the manifest of the «.s. "Ahmedi”, which left Bushire in December/January last the following goods appeared:-
with destination Macao:- 110 packages, each containing 4 cases of opium of 160 Ingl, pounds;
with destination Keelung, Kobe and Dairen:- 74 packages,
each containing 2 cases of opium of 160 Engl. pounds;
and 74 packages thereof were landed at Sabang,
According to a report received from the Governor of Acheen and Dependencies of the last lot of 74 packages 29 were shipped to Keelung by the 8.5. "Shimei Mard 20 to Dairen by the 8.8. "Nemwah" and the balance to Kobe by the 8.8. "Vollenhoven".
An individual of this tom, who is interested in shipping on East Asia, stated that generally the opium is sold to persons, who come to fetch it from the ship in small craft, some distance before any port in China can be reached.
