Mr.Churchill desires me to thank you for
your letter of May 30th, and to offer the following
observations on the memorɑnuum you encloset, so far as it
relates to the conduct of the Governor.
2. The first four paragraphs are intended to throw
dubt upon Mr.Chamberlain's statement that Mrs.Haslevood
was o xxiucting her campaign in terms which gave much
annyance to the Chinese community. This doubt can
hardly be maintained in the face of Mrs.Haslew000'a
own words in an inte. via. ra, ortqu in the Methouist
Times of July 14th 1921: "The latter which I wrote to the
Pres. and the campaign which I then Deal r used a
fierce opposition. At onge there was an official defence
of the system which was not denied but justifieu. I am
sorry to say that am nɩ those who rangai themselves in
Gefence of the Chinese system has a prominent missionary."
