I can unreservedly recommend Dr. John Anderson for the
Chair of Medicine in the University of Hong Kong.
At the London School of Tropical Medicine his ability
attracted the notice of the late Sir Patrick Manson who, in 1920,
invited him to become a member of the Commission then being organised
to study Filariasis under my direction. In this way I was brought
into intimate association with Dr. Anderson's work. In British
Guiana Dr. Anderson undertook the clinical and pathological investi-
gations of the inquiry; proving himself a physician of much acumen,
and a keen morbid anatomist. He won and retained the confidence
and co-operation of all classes among the many nationalities re-
presented in that Colony. At the same time he proved of very
great value to the Commission by his Public and social gifts which
gained for us numerous friends in administrative and commercial
circles.
I was
so much struck by his sympathetic handling of coloured
peoples, and by his courtesy and tact, that on proceeding later
from British Guiana to China I left him in charge; in full
