The undersigned, from 1897 1913 a resident of Hongkong/ Canton bags to apply for the full- or part-release of his property sequestrated at Hongkong, amounting to D.14344,67 as per attached
copy of the letter of the Custodian of Enemy Property, dated Hong-
Kong the 25th May 1920.

I left Hongkong/China in April 1913. When on the way to return
to the East I was surprised by the impending war and had to return
to Germany. Having had no occupation and consequently no income
all the time during the war I scantily prolonged the life of
myself and my family by mortgaging my house-property and by selling
my valuables and part of my house-furniture. My intention to return
to the East after the war was frustrated by the fact that by that
time I was practically pennyless. In December 1981 I obtained a
position as assistant of the Deutsch Asiatische Handels Gesellschaft
Hamburg, Reuerwall lo, however, my salary of Mk.Booo...– a month,
equal to about sh.40/-, being utterly insufficient to cover the
maintenance for myself and my family, the more so as all the
necessities of life in this country have reached and partly even
surpass the world's market prices, I had to rely on the assistance
of friends who accomodated me with loans from time to time when
necessity arose. This way of contracting debts
continued any longer es I donot know whether I
to repay these debts.

My house-property is mortgaged up to the full selling-value
