Statement of qualifications and service of sub-officer

H.T. Brooks of the London Fire Brigade who has applied and is

recommended by the Council for the position of superintendent of

the Hong Kong Fire Brigade

Sub-officer Brooks is 43 years of age, married with

two children, one son and one daughter aged 11 and 8 years

respectively.

He has completed 16 years' service in the London Fire

Brigade, during the last four years of which he has held the

rank of sub-officer. Since October, 1920, he has been attached

to a Superintendent's station and has consequently gained

valuable experience in the routine of a district.

He has been a qualified motor driver for 13 years, and

has driven all types of petrol and electric fire-appliances as

well as marine motor engines.

His record in the brigade shows "very good" for

character and ability.

Previous to joining the fire brigade Brooks served 9

years in the Royal Navy (attaining the rank of leading torpedoman)

He was mobilised in August, 1914, and served two years in an

armed cruiser attached to the North Sea Patrol.

He was

subsequently attached to H.M.S. Vernon in connection with

paravane running until July, 1917, when he was recalled with

other reservists for duty in the London Fire Brigade.
