I have laid before the Lorde Commissioners of Hig
Majesty's Treasury Sir G. Grindle's letter of the 10th January last (61723/1921), relative to the proposed
Gov
exclusion, from revenue liable to assessment for Military Contribution, of certain proceeds of the sale of rice
purchased by the Hong Kong Government in 1919.
In reply I am to request you to inform
Mr. Secretary Churchill that after consultation with the Army Council My Lorda concur in the proposal on the under- standing that the loss on the sale of rice brought into account in 1919 did not operate in any way in diminution
of the assessable revenue for that year.
I am,
sir,
Your obedient Servant,
La Barstow
The Under Secretary of State,
Colonial Office.
