We beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 13th instant, together with the enclosures mentioned therein, relative to the
Sauggling of Prohibited Drugs into the United States of America.
We have always viewed this question seriously and all our Masters, Officers and Engineers are fully aware of our desire to
stop this nefarious practice. We enclose herewith a copy of form supplied to all our vessels, from which you will observe we re- quire exhaustive searches of the vessel to be made periodically.
Our agents are fully alive to the necessity of taking special precautione against Drug Smuggling and have trustworthy watchmen engaged to superintend the loading of all our vessels. Besides which they make an exhaustive search of the vessel before her departure.
We will forward then a copy of the correspondence which you sent us and you may be assured that we will spare no effort to endeavour to stamp out Smuggling by the crews of our vessels.
