families and hotels in Hong Kong have also left their work
in protest of the autocratic and high-handed measures of
the British authorities. Only this morning we received a
telegram from Hong Kong advising us that Chinese employes of
British Banks have just gone on strike in sympathy with the
Beamen. This sympathetic strike is spreading to adjacent
ports.
Our fellowgeamen in China are resolved to hold
out until they can get a living wage. They are appealing to
workers of the world for support. They are fighting not
only their own battle, but also that if the workers of every
part of the world. They are fighting for the constitutional
right to better their condition by amicable means – a right
recognised by all civilised societies. For these rẸ SONB
we, Chinese seamen, held a mass meeting in Mott Street
yesterday condemning the action the Hong Kong Government as
despotic and arbitrary and sent an appeal to the labor - part
in England to see that a more humane treatment be accorded
to their brother seamen in Hong Kong.
In justice to the Chinese Seamen in Chins and in
order that the rights of the labor may be upheld, we Chinese
Semen in the United States urge upon the American Labor to
take whatever action they deem fit to help cope with thie
extremely serious situation.
:I
Respectfully,
CHINESE SAMEN INSTITUTE.
