utilized for closing the space between the ends of the jetties. The filled up area of the junk basin would be of
much value for godowns, or other purposes.
67.
The position of the jetties as laid down hai been governed by the depth of water and the level of the "hard" sub-stratum. If the ends of the jetties had been
placed sufficiently seaward so as to cover the Cust Rọcks, the cost of the foundations would have been greatly
increased. To have continued Jetty No. 4 alone so as to have sovered those rooks would have been unsightly and inconvenient to navigation. We have, therefore, preferred
to keep the ends of the jettien back to the line shown and to remove the Gust Rooks down to the required depth as being the more satisfactory course to adopt.
68.
With the completion of the whole scheme shown by yellow colour, the general lay-out of the railways will require to be re-arranged. It may be anticipated that by that time railway traffic will have largely developed. Should this be the case extensive siding mogemmodation for marshalling inward and outward traffic will be required. for this purpose the large reclamation area shown in yellow to the northward of the jetties will be available,
and
if necessary further accommodation sould be obtained by widening the railway cutting to the northward of Gascoyne and Chathais Roads, the excavation from which could be used
for filling the reclamation.

Vo have been asked on several occasions what our views are no regards providing a dredger for the harbour requirements, and we consider it very important that a dredger should be available.
