With reference to our conversation this morning, I

enclose a copy of our letter to Treasury of the 20th December

about the case of Captain Brooke-Short.

2.

As regards the pay of Aldes-de-Camp in India. This is

made up of Indian Army pay of rank plus staff pay as Aide-de-

Camp, and the rates are at present as follows:-

1.A.D.C.to Gov: General or

President in Council, and Governors.

Rs,

300p.m. in addition to Indian

Army pay of rank.

2.A.D.C.to Lieut Governors,

C.in.C, Army Commander, and G.0.0. Division.

250 p.m.

3.A.D.C. to Political Resident

at Aden. (a witcharge)

An Alde-de-Camp who is a 2nd Lieut of Royal Field Artillery..

Royal Garrison Artillery., Royal Engineers, or British Infantry,

will draw the Indian pay of his rank and branch plug the staff

pay given above.

The Staff Pay given above has not been increased sime

the war. On the other hand a very substantial increase has
