Section 17 (2) of the Ordinance is general in form and provides that where the making of a false statement is made punishable by any other enactment, proceedings may be taken either under such an enactment or under the Perjury Ordinance. The corresponding sub-section in the Act only deals with the case of false statements made punishable on summary conviction. The wider form of the sub-section in the Ordinance is based on aection 17 (2) of the Forgery Ordinance, 1922.
