sir,
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Hongkong,
8th September, 1922.
With reference to our recent conversation
I am directed to state that the Peak Hospital Company has agreed to accept the offer of $100,000 for the Peak Hospital inclusive of fittings and equipment.
The Goverment is therefore able to confirm
the arrangement provisionally made whereby you purchase the property and lease it to the Government subject to the condition that the Hospital is maintained on present liner; the rent to be in the nominal sum of Á per annum and the " lease to extend for such period as may elapse pending the completion of the War Memorial Nursing Home.
His Excellency the Officer Administering the Government desires me to express to you on behalf of the Community of Hongkong his deep appreciation of your most generous Hift. The closing of the Peek Hospitel would have gravely accentuated the alreedy existing need for additions] accommodation, which the Kowloon Hospital and the Fursing Home will eventually provide; and a serious situation has
been avoided owing to your timely action. The benefit to the Colony arising therefrom will be very great.
I am, ko.,
(8d.) M. Fletcher,
Colonial Secretary.
J. X. Joseph, Esq.
