INTITULED
An Ordinance to provide for the carrying on of the work formerly carried on by certain German societies and persons in the Colony of Hongkong, and to deal with certain pro- perty formerly held or administered by, or used in connection with the work of, such societies and persons in the Colony of Hong- kong, and to provide for the control of the persons by whom the said work is to be carried on.
WHEREAS Certain Christian religions missions were formerly maintained by certain German societies and persone in the Colony of Hongkong, namely by the Bocieties known as the Berlin Ladies Mission for China, the Basel Evangelical Missionary Society, the Rhenish Mission and the Hildesheim Mission, and by the various persone concerned in the administration and work of the said missions:
AND WHEREAS, in accordance with Article 438 of the Treaty of Peace between the Allied and Associated Powers and Germany, which was signed at Versailles on the 28th day of June, 1919, and the ratifications of which were exchanged on the 10th day of January, 1920, it is desirable that arrangements should be made for carrying on the work of the said missions and persons in the Colony of Hongkong, and that the pro- perty which the said missions and persons formerly possessed or administered or used in the Colony of Hongkong should continue to be devoted to missionary purposes, and that the said property should be handed over to boards of trustees appointed by or approved by the Government of the Colony of Hongkong and com- posed as near as may be of persons holding the faith of the said missions, and that the Government of the Colony of Hongkong should continue to maintain full control as to the individuals by whom the maid missionary work shall be conducted:
Be it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof,
as follows:-
1. This Ordinance may be cited se the German Short title. Missions Ordinance, 1922,
2. (1) The Right Reverend Charles Ridley Duppay, Incorporation the Venerable Archdeacon Ernest Judd Barnett, the of trustees, Reverend John Kirk Maconachie, the Reverend Thomas William Peirce, and the Reverend Charles Clouston Porri, and their successors in office, as hereinafter defined, shall be a body corporate, in this Ordinance hereinafter referred to as the corporation, and shall have the name of "The Garman Missions Trustees", and by that name shall have perpetual succession and shall and may sue and be sust in all courts in the Colony, and shall and may have and use a common seal.
