Sir,

We are in receipt of your letter No.35792/22 of August 16th with reference to Mr. L.A. Barton.

Mr. Barton was employed on our Probationary Staff in this office from 25.11.1914 until 26.6.1915, on which date be was transferred to our Eastern Staff in China. He remained with us in China till 30.6.1919, when he resigned to join the Portuguese firm of Messrs.J.M.Alves & Company.

During the four and a half years Mr. Barton was with us he was, as far as we can remember, always perfectly strong and healthy, hardworking, and in every way a satisfactory member of our Staff.
