I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 3rd of December enclosing a report from Messrs. Lowe, Bingham and Matthews with regard to the claim of the Tai Yan Steam Launch Company and others for
compensation.
2.
In the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 4th of May you were requested to make it clear to Messrs. Lowe, Bingham and Matthews that the Government would not consider any claim based on loss of future profits. The claim submitted, is, nevertheless, largely based on consideration of future profits.
3.
In these circumstances I am to return the report enclosed in your letter and to suggest that you should furnish on behalf of your clients evidence in support of a claim in accordance with the terms of the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 29th of October, 1920.
