Cross-examined by A.G.

I am a ship's cook not a coolie. I have been out of work sin

ce the strike stopped. I wanted to get work as a coolie in the

Naval Yard. I could not get any. I was looking for my friend Ah

Cheung. I knew him in the country. I last him on the 2nd decade of

1st moon. It was in Chan Chuen. I told him if there was any work I

should like him to get it for me. He said I am an odd job worker

and I went to look for him in the Naval Yard, I was engaged on

the S.S.Kwong Chow between 10 & 20 days when the ship was ashore.

I was a cook before in Chan Chuen. It was my first time in Hongkong

when I was employed by the S.S.Kwong Chow. I had been here in

October 1921, My name was then registered in a club, the Hongkong

& Wuchow Steam Navigation Club. I was here when there was a typhoon

I had a brother here a pastry cook. I worked at Yatmati between 1

& 2 months then a small boy. Last October on my 2nd visit I was

here 2 or 3 days only. Next time when I came on ong Chow. I was

here until the ship stopped working. It goes between Hongkong &

Wuchow, stays in Hongkong long enough to take in new cargo, Found

trip of 5 days. Ship always arrived in the afternoon. It would

sail about 5 next afternoon. During that time I stayed in Hongkong

and cooked rice. I came along to Hongkong. I don't know when Ah

Cheung came. I went to the Club and stayed there. It is at 60

Bonham Road near Western Market. Next morning I went to get food

in Stanley Street. Opposite Wan Something. I went alone to the

eating house. I then went along to look for Ah Cheung. I turned
