P.C. 339. On 24th February at 11.45 on duty at junction of Des Voeux Road and Jackson Road, I saw 3 or 4 men running 1 run- ning ahead of 3 or 4 running after him from the Praya. They ran up Wardley Street. I chased after them. I went up the tram line to Queen's Road. I saw several men standing together at the corner of Hongkong Bank and Wardley Street. I was about 30 paces away. I got from Des Voeux Road to Queen's Road by Jackson Road. Wardley Street is by the side of the bank. I saw a number of people and prisoner being held down. The 5 men pressing prisoner on ground handed him to me, The man saw running ahead who was being chased

was a Chinaman. I did not notice any European. I noticed one of the men chasing was a fireman that was the only one I noticed. I did not see any people coming from Queen's statue and turning right or left in Des Voeux Road. The fireman ran up to Wardley Street. 3 or 4 men at the beginning, I saw go up Wardley Street.

Examination continued.

I saw a Chinese running and 3 or 4 men chasing him. The man was between 10 and 20 paces ahead of the 3 or 4 men. I did not notice any others.

Cross-examined.

I was on traffic duty. When I first saw the single man run- ninghe was a few paces from the entrance to Wardley Street. 6 or

7 paces from Wardley Street on the Des Voeux Road side. I was on

duty there and so I looked round.

Assistant Compradore in Hongkong & Shanghai Bank. On February 24th about 11.45 A.M. I was in the Bank. I saw a crowd running up

Wardley Street. was in the Bank near that side. I went out to

the verandah as I saw a crowd running. I did not see the arrest.

I did not distinguish abybody in the crowd. I did not then know

a man had been arreated. I saw a man on the ground when I first

got out and several people passing. This was the queen's Road end

of Wardley Street,

I went out to Des Voeux Road and from information given me by a
